WORKFORCE AND EDUCATION INITIATIVES
Administrators & Teachers in BusinessThis program allows classroom instructors to spend a day with two or three businesses to witness the skills required in a particular industry. Example: CTAE graphic design and broadcasting teachers touring a printing company, television station, and a media company. These real-life examples and career knowledge are then shared with students in these pathways. Teachers in Business took a new approach in 2018. The Columbia County School System's administration, principals from middle and high schools, and the teachers of the year -- a total of 39 attendees -- participated in a new approach of TIB called a Stop-and-Go Tour. The day will begin with a breakfast and the review of the workforce needs study followed by a presentation on nuclear careers. From there, they boarded a bus and toured and heard from various HR managers in the fields of advanced manufacturing, logistics, transportation, industrial, healthcare, cyber, business, and construction. The day wrapped up with a conversation from employment agencies on what the most critical needs are in our community.

Students in BusinessIn this program, CTAE Students are divided up by their pathway and bused to various businesses in their particular pathway. Example: Engineering students tour the John Deere Plant and welding and automotive students tour an automobile repair shop and Georgia Iron Works. A total of 85 students are divided in the pathways of cyber, construction/engineering, welding/automotive, business, and graphic design/broadcasting. This program allows students to see first-hand the operations of the business with the hopes to further drive their interest in these fields.

Career and College Expo
Third Annual Career and College Expo slated for March 8, 2022! The Chamber's newest event was held for the first time in 2019. This program's goal is to educate middle and high school students and parents about the career opportunities in their own backyard. Businesses who participate will have a booth to showcase the types of careers, education requirements, salary and benefits along with possible scholarships or internships offered. After visiting the business booths, students and parents meet with technical colleges, universities, and trade school organizations to learn about these institutions. Two $500 scholarships were drawn from the high school registration. Thirty-minute seminars were also hosted on financial aid, scholarships, and specific industries.
